Social Media Friends

Do you have social media friends? Are social media friends people who know you in real life? Or they are just some online strangers that you meet on social media because of same interest, and you just start to click with them?  I have  social media friends. Yes, they are type of friends whom I met on social media because of same interest and passion. I started to know them through Twitter, when I made a fan account just talk about Korean pop group that I like, in other word, fangirling. So I become friend with them after knowing that we like the same group and start to talk about our favourite band all the time.

 

 We also ask each other personal questions in order to know each other better. I have a group of friends on social media that love this same group as mine. Who would imagine you can have  friends on social medias that share same interests with you. Keeping update, make a throwback we can share everything from A to Z about who we like, playlist song and bias. My fangirling life has never been this exciting but with the existence of this friends, everyday we have someone to share. One of the thing that I realize from having these friends on social media is I have various friends from all around the world, from Asean countries to the West, all of these friends are there on the social media.

One day my social media friend from Spain made a tweet said : can you share famous food in your country, and I immediately search for Nasi Lemak picture and share it there, I also said I am from KL, and she said, oh the one who is mentioned in song Where Are U From right? and I say yes, that is it. Sometimes, this simple conversation is meaningful enough that it leave impression on me, I did not forget simple conversation between me and her until now, what does it feel to share about your culture and country to these people? with the coronavirus, world pandemic, just small talk can help someone in their life.

I just need to put some effort to start the conversation and then everything will go on smoothly. These social media friends they did not know who us in real life, therefore there will not be any prejudice of who we are, given my background, I do not think my real life friends even know that I like this or that groups from South Korea maybe they do not even care because they did not have interest for them. But with social media friends I feel comfortable to pour my thoughts on social medias, no prejudices, no judgements and  no string attach.
