UNGS 1201 SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: ISSUES, PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES
SEMESTER 2, 2020/2021 SECTION 11
REFLECTIVE JOURNAL
Hence, I decided to take my first step in achieving sustainable
development, which I have this idea of what I can do at home. So, what I love
to do during online learning and remote teaching and learning, I also love
online shopping, but the only bad things with this, every parcel that arrives
at my house comes with bubble wrap and boxes to protect the stuff or product
inside, so I am thinking should I just throw away this bubble wrap and boxes,
or should I reuse it for a further purpose, maybe I can reuse it later on when
I want to send or post stuff to friends. Therefore, I started to keep every
bubble wrap from the parcel that arrived with it every time I made an online
purchase. Unfortunately, reusing stuff or keeping reusable stuff cause you to
provide space in keeping it, but I keep stacking my bubble wrap, it becomes so much
that I need to fold it every time and keep it under my makeup table, funny how
I did not realise this coming, but after trying I finally understand that every
waste management system needs to come with a specifically provided place to do
it, even for recycling, we need to have a certain place to put our recycle bin
and recycled or reusable stuff. This is one of the challenges.
After I tried to start reusing reusable thing like, bubble wrap and
boxes from my online purchases I realise it takes some space to keep all off
the stuff, although I first thought that keeping all of these things are
unnecessary, but later on when I want to post thing to my friends I feel like
it is easier because I do not need to buy a new bubble wrap or boxes things
because I already keep it in my room. Hence, I feel like this whole experience
is teaching me that if I want to practice sustainable value I should be prepared
and ready to take some challenge because it is something that should be
practice first, then later in the future we will see the benefit just like what
I felt every time I reuse stuff that I did not throw, I think it is reducing
the cost of spending money to buy it all new again. That is why I think if
everyone can practice even a small act of sustainability their life will become
so much better.
